Testosterone Therapy Fact Sheet
Andropause: Male Menopause, caused by decline in Testosterone Levels.
Testosterone Decline Symptoms: Loss of Energy, Decrease Mental Concentration, Decrease Muscle Mass, Loss of Athletic Ability, Depression.
Long Term Testosterone Decline leads to illness, fatigue, malaise and aging.
Hormonal decline is normal, but so is heart disease. They are equally disease states, and will in the end, prove fatal to any human being who allows either one to run its course unhindered Dr. Eugene Shippen author of The Testosterone Syndrome
Testosterone and The Heart:
The human heart has more cellular sites for receiving testosterone than in any other muscle in the body.
Testosterone is the stimulator for arterial dilation and when testosterone diminishes the pumping power of the heart declines and angina pains begin.
Testosterone also increases the production of Nitric Oxide, a natural form of Nitroglycerine.
When testosterone is administered in appropriate dosages, most of the major risk factors for heart disease diminish Dr. Shippen

Testosterone works protectively in men just as estrogen does in women.
Andropause Facts
1. Does testosterone replacement therapy make men more aggressive and hostile?
Testosterone has suffered a negative public image due to so many reports of steroid abuse by athletes. The perception is that testosterone is responsible for undesirable male traits such as aggression. This is simply not the case. Hyper aggression is a direst result of men with normal testosterone levels taking external testosterone at doses which are many times higher than the dose prescribed to a client on testosterone replacement therapy.
2. I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Can I still take testosterone?
The answer is no. In men with an existing cancer condition, testosterone can speed up or promote its growth. This is one of the reasons that clients of Advanced Metabolic Solutions are required to have a blood test.
3. I have an enlarged prostate. Can I be involved with testosterone therapy?
The prostate slowly enlarges as men age. And in some men, testosterone can cause this process to speed up. Consequently, some men with enlarged prostates may qualify while others may not. One of the physicians at AMS will make that determination. The physician will monitor prostate health with regular (PSA, Prostate Specific Antigen) blood testing and physical examinations.
4. I am 71 years old. Am I too old to start testosterone therapy?
No. No patient is too old to begin testosterone replacement therapy if so indicated. As for any medication, testosterone should be taken under a physicians care, with appropriate follow-up evaluations.
5. Does Viagra work in the same way as testosterone?
Testosterone replacement therapy works differently than Viagra, which acts on the penis only to maintain an erection. Testosterone on the other hand works on the body as a whole and all aspects of the sexual response. Testosterone is the hormone of desire for both men and women. As a result, if testosterone levels are low, so is your desire for sex. Erectile Dysfunction or ED is a complex problem that requires a thorough physical and psychological examination. Testosterone replacement therapy will not only improve a mans erectile quality but will improve sexual desire and prevent debilitating diseases such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
6. Does having to take testosterone make me somehow less manly?
Absolutely not! Andropause is a natural occurrence of aging and by administering testosterone to supplement your naturally declining levels you are performing a very manly function by improving your health and well-being.
